ELIZABETH, NJ - The Elizabeth Development Company, a 501C-3 Economic Development Agency that has served the Elizabeth Community since 1977, elected Marcy Metz as its Chairperson for 2014-2015.
Marcy is a graduate of the Executive MBA Program from Rutgers University. She is President of BJ &M Auto Inc. and ASISCO Automotive Company Inc, located in Elizabeth, New Jersey. ASISCO and BJ&M are SBE and WBE certified in New Jersey. On a national level, the companies are WBENC certified. Both companies service the tri-state area.
Marcy also currently serves on the following boards: Greater Elizabeth Chamber of Commerce, Boys & Girls Club Union County, Groundwork Elizabeth, Union County Economic Development Corporation, Trinitas Health Foundation, Crime Stoppers of Union County, Ehrhart, and Schaefer Gardens.
The EDC serves as a redevelopment conduit for the City of Elizabeth and also administers several programs including, The Urban Enterprise Zone Program, an On-The-Job Training Program and a Loan Program. EDC also assists companies and developers in accessing state and federal incentives like the Economic Redevelopment Growth grant and the Federal New Market Tax Credit Program.
Marcy Metz stated, “I am honored to be selected to as EDC’s new Chairperson, and look forward to building on the many successful economic development initiatives which are helping to revitalize our community.”
Other officers elected for 2014-2015 include Gordon Haas, Executive Director of the Greater Elizabeth Chamber of Commerce who will serve as EDC’s Vice Chairperson; Nadine Brechner, Chief Development Officer for Trinitas Regional Medical Center who will serve as EDC’s Secretary; Dr. Margaret M. McMenamin, President of Union County College who will serve as EDC’s Treasurer; and Newton J. Burkett, Jr., President of the Burkett Organization, who will serve as the Immediate Past Chairperson.
As part of their annual meeting, special awards were also posthumously presented for EDC Board Members Ralph Berkowitz, Catherine Saintilien, Robert Chiarello, Ronald Posyton, and Sidney Lessner. “Through their contribution of time, energy, and commitment, these special individuals helped shape the redevelopment of the City of Elizabeth for over three decades,” said Bill O’Dea, EDC’s Executive Director. Many family members were on hand to receive the awards and share in the special occasion.
